Writing a Book

I am teaching law practice management at St. Louis University School of Law here in St. Louis, Missouri. I have to say that I enjoy the experience immensely. Last year when I taught the class, I read about 15 to 20 books on the subject, researched websites like the ABA’s website on law practice management and Missouri Bar’s link to Rules of Professional Conduct. I prefer to go to the actual State Supreme Court’s website for these rules because the commentary is omitted, which is my source for all things ‘law’ related. I had to struggle to bring all these sources together to teach! So this year I wrote a book on Law Practice Management, Professionalism and Ethics, geared specifically to Missouri lawyers, on how to start in business. So it is not a generic book, but a book for Missouri lawyers. I have been asked by many seasoned lawyers who lost their cushy law firm job, “how do I start?” and “I will buy you lunch if I can talk to you for an hour”. I began in the solo trenches, so I figure I can impart some kernel of knowledge!

See you in my next post.
